Heavy duty mosaic mesh
I recently posted about the different types of mosaic mesh that I have encountered while working on The Butterfly Project installation.
There are flimsy, cottony types and stiff, heavy duty types. I prefer the latter because the mosaic is much easier to control when adhering it to the wall.
Someone emailed me asking about where to get the heavier stuff and I did a little digging...
Tennessee artist Sherry Warner Hunter sells light, medium and heavy duty mesh on her website. Her price list and order form is located here.
I did receive a mosaic or two on the heavy stuff. It was very stiff and held the mosaic in place very well. When I asked the artist where she bought the mesh, she referred me to Sherry's website...so, you can buy it there.
I also learned that mosaic mesh is called "glass scrim" and sometimes referred to as "AR fiberglass mesh" - meaning alkaline resistant. These terms might help if you need to do a search for the products in your area.
I have been unable to locate mosaic mesh anywhere in Fort Myers but I think it might be because of the terms I was using to ask suppliers about it. It's used commercially in concrete and stucco work so it must be around.
Here's a source for the glass scrim >>> Expressions -LTD
I'm not sure how you would be able to tell the weight of it without handling it first but it's a starting point.
Cheers!
